New Chrysoprase and White Sapphire Sterling Silver Ring!

Chrysoprase and White Sapphire Ring

Chrysoprase and White Sapphire Ring

We just finished this beautiful chrysoprase inlay ring with white sapphires set in sterling silver.  Three pieces of apple green chrysoprase are inlaid in each side of this ring with 3 pave` set white sapphires in the center.  The sparkling white sapphires total .09cts. and are in a triangle cluster.  The ring is 5.6mm wide at the top and 3.2mm wide at the bottom (shank).  The handmade chrysoprase ring in the photo is a size 7 1/4.  All other sizes will be special orders and will take about 3 to 4 weeks to complete.  You may customize this ring by substituting other inlay materials or other gemstones in place of the white sapphires.  Additional charges will apply if your choices are an upgrade.  This ring style is a popular choice for those looking for a unique and unusual wedding ring.

Chrysoprase is a rare form of chalcedony or quartz.  Chrysoprase ranges from light to dark green but is most sought after in its striking apple green color.  Chrysoprase is rare due to the fact that it is cryptocrystalline, meaning that instead of being formed by large six sided crystals, the size of the crystals are extremely small and cannot be seen as distinct particles under normal magnification.  Chrysoprase has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Moh’s scale and is in the same stone family as agate, carnelian, and onyx.  The best known sources of chrysoprase are Queensland Australia, Germany, Poland, Russia, Arizona, California, and Brazil.

New Turquoise and Spiderweb Turquoise Jewelry

We have been busy creating  new sterling silver jewelry with our newly acquired turquoise and just received another shipment of outstanding turquoise to work with.  One batch is a very nice spiderweb turquoise in bright  blue with a very tight black matrix.  The webbing is formed when iron oxide fills the cracks and voids in the turquoise.  In spider web turquoise the webbing follows no set pattern or strand width, ranging in color from reddish-brown to black.  We have inlaid the new spiderweb turquoise with several complimentary stones including plain turquoise, dinosaur bone, Australian opal and our new “birdseye” turquoise.  See the new turquoise ring!

Spiderweb Turquoise Rough

The other batch is birdseye turquoise.  “Birdseye” turquoise is usually light blue with darker blue matrix circling some of the light blue areas.  The pattern created by the two colors resembles the eye of a bird.  The birdseye  is a little more subtle than the bold spiderweb turquoise.  Here is a photo of a few pieces of rough birdseye.  You can see the beautiful birdseye pattern even in the rough pieces.

If gold is outside of your budget, take a look at this similar his and hers wedding set in sterling silver with white sapphires and Australian opal inlay.

You could almost call these opal rings one of a kind pieces because opal forms under such unique conditions, it is nearly impossible to find two opals exactly the same- even from the same opal mine.  Opal is the only gemstone known to man to have the natural ability to diffract light.  An opal’s color is created when the voids between the particles split light entering the stone.  The size and alignment of the spheres and voids, as well as the light source, determines the colors produced.  To view an opal’s color play at its best, the light source must be coming over your shoulder.  An opal’s color can cover the full spectrum of the rainbow. The opal in this wedding ring set is high quality genuine Australian opal, not lab grown synthetic opal.

Australian opal inlay jewelry is our specialty!

Australian opal inlay pendant with blue topaz and diamondsWe spend a lot time and effort promoting our sterling silver jewelry and sometimes neglect giving our gold jewelry equal time in the spot light.  Actually, it is our incredible Australian opal inlay jewelry designs that the Hileman name is known for in the jewelry industry.   Hileman jewelry is recognized for the unsurpassed quality of the Australian opal and the superior craftsmanship used in creating our bold inlay jewelry designs.  Our opal inlay jewelry can be found in the jewelry boxes of celebrities, CEO’s and opal jewelry collectors around the world.

This remarkable opal pendant is a great example of our top of the line opal and outstanding workmanship.  This handmade pendant is inlaid with the finest crystal opal Australia has to offer. The pendant’s opal inlay alternates between bright blue green opal sections and red multicolor sections of opal. Opal of this quality is quite rare and is becoming harder to obtain at any price, making this pendant a real collector’s piece. The center stone is a spectacular 13.25 carat shell fantasy cut Swiss blue topaz. The faceting on the topaz is very unique. The top is slightly domed with only one facet with the bottom has all the facets and notches to create the pattern viewed from the top. The opal inlay and topaz are accented by 28 pave` set diamonds. The diamonds are VS clarity and G/H color and have a total weight of .60 carats.

Fossilized Red Horn Coral Jewelry

A few weeks ago we purchased some fossilized red horn coral from a local gem dealer.  He had acquired a nice quantity of the coral and thought it would be perfect for our inlay jewelry.  We had never heard of red horn coral, but the nice range of red to pink colors and the dealer’s assurance that it would take a nice polish persuaded us to give it a try.  Here is our first piece of jewelry utilizing the fossilized red horn coral.  The coral we inlaid in this silver ring is a nice red-orange color with great depth.  Fossilized horn coral is fairly hard and does indeed take a great polish.  Check out the ring!   http://www.shop.hilemansilverjewelry.com/Red-horn-fossil-coral-inlay-sterling-silver-ring-W106ssRedHornCoralOnyx.htm

Red fossilized horn coral ring in sterling silver

Red fossilized horn coral and black onyx inlay ring in sterling silver

This red horn coral is from Utah and is about 390 million years old.  A great inland sea once covered Utah and much of the western United States.  As the earth evolved, the inland sea receded and sediments covered the coral reefs.  Over time the structure of the ancient horn coral was fossilized and replaced by agate.  The fossilized red horn coral is also known as rugosa coral.   I will spare you the details but if you would like to read a more detailed description of  horn coral go to http://www.palaeos.org/Rugosa.

Here is a photo of some of the fossilized red horn coral rough we purchased.  It is an interesting stone to cut and work with.  It requires some thought and patience in cutting to maximize the yield and retain the beautiful pattern, but I think the resulting piece is worth it.  Look for more red horn coral jewelry coming soon!

Note:  This is not living coral from our current coral reefs in our oceans.  This coral died hundreds of millions of years ago and is found in the Utah desert.
